*Stumbling on a blog is like picking up a new book only to begin reading at page 439. It feels like you’re already behind & you just don’t have the time to start from page 1.

[However, should you feel so inclined, you can start at my very first post on the blog.]

The JennEric Cliff Notes:

us2This is us…well, us about 4 years & 40 pounds ago.

Eric’s in the Army; I’m the Army wife.

We’re currently stationed in South Korea with 2 and a half years to go before we change stations again.

We have a big, sweet, loveable, destructable dog named Maggie Moo who’s bound & determined to test every ounce of patience we have while simultaneously giving us every ounce of joy.

We also have a 10 year-old cat, Kitten, who plays a minor, but cranky role.

We’re just your average husband & wife living the Army life.

While together, we’ve been stationed at:

  • Ft Hood, Texas
  • Ft Eustis, Virginia
  • the recruiting station in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma (don’t ask)
  • and now Camp Humphries, South Korea.

I started this blog as a way to record all our experiences & amazing (ok, sometimes really bad) pictures of life in Korea.

~ What makes Army life in Korea different? ~

Oh…you mean besides all the battle-rattle from the little man up North?…

Well, for starters I had to get special permission to come over. Korea has always what’s been referred to as a “hardship tour” – meaning your husband would go off for a year, leaving you in the states.

But things are changing here. Soon it will be “normalized” – meaning your wife, your kids, your two cars all come over for 3 years at a time. We came in just on the tail-end of the old way of life & it took us 5 months to get permission, what they call command sponsorship.

(I think we had the longest qualifying time ever.)

~ About Eric ~

iraqHe’s been in the Army now for over 13 years – with just 7 to go before retirement. And yes, he’s been to the sandbox & back.

The current debate between us is if we’ll be in Korea for 2 years or 3. Either way, he wants to get to Germany after this.

The boy can’t seem to stop playing World of Warcraft & really loves Korean food…but for some reason refuses to eat peas.

~ About Jennifer ~

meWell, I’m Texas girl first & foremost. But I double as a self-employed graphic designer traipsing around anywhere the Army decides to send my GI Joe husband.

(And before you ask – yep, I designed the blog myself…that’s what you get when you have lots of downtime before your household goods arrive overseas.)

I also get asked a lot if I watch the show Army Wives. And while I’m glad the show has such a great following, I’m afraid I can’t stand it – sorry to all you fans.

I’m an Army wife everyday – not just once a week on Lifetime.

I don’t have a make-up artist to keep my nose powdered, no expensive wardrobe to pull from everyday and no director to say “cut” when Army life gets a little too intense. Watching the pop culture version just doesn’t appeal to me.

But I desperately miss Tex-Mex, Sonic’s Cherry Limeades & all my friends & family back home.

This blog helps me stay in touch with them & anyone else who’s interested in the ramblings of a lonely Army wife.
