Chocolate, chocolate & chocolate
jennifer wrote this at 8:26 pm

Before I regale you with memories of birthdays past, I want to say thank you to you all for the well wishes & kind words.

This birthday has been the hardest one yet.

21?…no biggie – I don’t drink. 30?…no biggie – I didn’t feel any older. 39?….39?….

39?….well, let’s just leave it at that, 39.

But again – thank you for all the kind words.

bday-13

Birthday Dessert #2: Cake batter & the stereotypical yet iconic image of a toddler holding her first batter-covered beater.

(But I think this one was a yellow cake.)

bday-14

Birthday Dessert #7 (I think…that could be me at 7, right?): Mom’s labor-intensive homemade barbie doll cake – complete with matching brown curly hair.

(That would be me in the back looking ever so impressed & wondering when I’m going to actually get to eat that cake.)

bday-15

Birthday Dessert #33: Chocolate dessert martinis (no alcohol, just a whole-lotta chocolate luuuuvvvvv)

(Yes, I know – I skipped a few years. But all my other family photos reside in a box…in a warehouse…in Oklahoma.)

I was still a swingin’ single woman livin’ up the nightlife at Sambuca’s in uptown Dallas wearing a fabulous Chinese silk-fringed strappy number wondering when I would find my ‘damn man’.

Damn Man: The name I gave my unknown Mister Right because I knew when I finally saw him I would take one look & think ‘Damn’.

bday-16

Birthday Dessert #39: Well, what birthday dessert #39 was supposed to look like minus the swirl & strawberry had I actually made it last night.

It sits still in the pan…now in the fridge…waiting to be melted into chocolate lava luv.

bday-11

Maybe tomorrow night.

    Better late than never.

  2. Love that 2 year-old picture! And doesn’t every little girl get a barbie cake at one time or another? I know my daughter did and so did my soon to be granddaughter (my son & his wife are adopting her and her brother sometime in early 2010 but there’s a ton of paperwork and red tape to work through.) Can’t wait to hear all about that lava cake. I’ve always wanted to try making some just not got up the nerve.

Boy, did the picture of that Barbie cake bring back a flood of memories!!! I think that was last cake Mama made me, and we were living in Germany at the time. Honestly, besides the chocolate potato cakes I used to get Granny to make me when I was a teenager, it is the last birthday cake I can remember. Mine’s dress was purple. What color was yours?? I, too, am looking forward to seeing the lava cakes. You need to send me that recipe, by thhe way. Love you.

I have vivid memories (well, maybe not vivid, but I do remember) of that Barbie birthday of yours. :) I remember being so impressed by what Mom had made you, and wished she would make me one, but she never did. You are her favorite after all. :)

But come on – seriously with the Sambuca photo? You’re sitting there all thin and demure and taking the tiniest taste of your chocolate while I’m obviously the woman of Fezzik’s dreams shoving chocolate in my mouth hand over fist. Loveliness personified. :P

I hope you make your lava cakes soon – and take lots of pictures!

So What Do You Think?
