I feed the neighborhood dogs...the neighbors feed me.

corn

Fee Fi Fo Fum…Give me that corn, I want sum!

[clomp, clomp, clomp]

The day I started getting sick Mrs. Lumber Baron must’ve noticed.

Maggie & I were on our daily walk & I could see the Lumber Barons out in their fields – planting more cold-weather crops.

As we got closer you could see Mrs. Lumber Baron’s outdoor stove going full steam and the smell was divine.

But I wasn’t feeling well & they looked busy, so I tried to slip past without our customary smile & bow.

Nope. Didn’t work.

She walked right up to me, said something I couldn’t make out & handed me these two roasted ears of corn – right off the stove!

(And no, I don’t have giant man-hands, thank you very much – the ears were all of 5-6 inches long – but it sure does look like I have man hands. My next trick will be to crush the cobs in a single squeeze!)

I must’ve really looked out of it because she mimicked to me how to eat them – hand raised to her mouth, mouthing the num-num sound. All that was lacking from this little exchange was the ‘here comes the airplane’ routine.

corn-2

But they were mine & they were wonderful.

Sweet, chewy, smoky carmelized kernels good enough to eat without the butter.

The irony is I had just been thinking a few days ago about the State Fair back home…Canton’s First Monday trade days…all outdoor events with great food vendors…and I was missing roasted corn.

Maggie thought for sure she’d get the other one. But if I was going to share my major score, I would have to give Eric the first right of refusal - which he took.

So they were all mine! Mine, I tell you! Mine!

AAaararrrrggggghhhhhhhh!

Jennifer, it was so good to hear from you today! Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog. I lost you along with everyone else whose blog I followed when my hard drive crashed awhile back. Then somehow, I pushed a button on my gmail and there was your blog roll. Well great! Sorry to hear that you were ill with the red spots and that you dog is still teething on everything that can’t outrun her.
I used to go to Canton trade days too when we lived in Dallas! What a great place to shop, eat, trade, eat, ….well. You know! I loved sausage on a stick with mustard cooked in those big smokin’ things!
Guess you’ve heard by now about the terrible news from Ft. Hood. What a waste!
Will be keeping up with you. Take care of yourself!

  2. Dont you just love how comfort comes out of the blue? There are no coincidences. This post made me smile because you are being taken care of.

So What Do You Think?
