Living in Korea I’ve come to completely & truly recognize the value of a buck…and what I spend it on.
Life before Korea I would see something in the store & think, ‘Oh, that’s cute!’ And pick it up without a second thought (if I had the money).
Now, not so much.
Now everything has to do triple-duty. Buying a single pair of shoes means they need to be more than ‘cute’. They need to dress up; they need to dress down; they need to last; they need to keep my feet warm & dry during the Korean winter;Â they need to be chew-proof.
(Ok…maybe that last one is a stretch.)
But buying something I can’t buy in Korea means paying to ship it to Korea.
So when I do buy something online, it’s something important – something of real value – something I honestly can’t live without.
And it makes going to the mail room feel like Christmas – even though we already know what’s inside the box.
This box?…This box contains something of real value – something I can’t live without – and surprisingly it’s something that can’t do double-duty, let alone triple-duty. But it’s worth every penny.

Williams-Sonoma Turkey Brine.

Specifically the ‘Apple & Spices’ turkey brine.

But just look at all the goodness inside!
Apples, juniper berries, lemon peel, star anise, garlic, bay leaves, onion….
The smell alone is divine….it’s intoxicating & almost narcotic.
And I can’t imagine ever cooking a Thanksgiving turkey again without it.
So yes…I spent good money on brine & have yet to find a pair of shoes.

Well, now wait a minute. Maybe the turkey brine can pull double-duty or even triple-duty. Have you ever thought of soaking your feet in it after you are done soaking the turkey??? You just have to heat it up a bit! You get the softest, smells-good-enough-eat feet, and the fragrance acts as an aroma therapy!! While that old bird is in the oven, you kick back with a tall glass of iced tea and rest. Wow! Now that’s big bang for the buck!!! You just leave it up to your ol’ redneck auntie, Honey. I’ll show you how to stretch that dollar til it squeals!!! Ha-Ha! (I know some one will think I’m serious!)
Actually, Aunt Terri is right – that brine can do double duty easily (except maybe not so much for your feet). Brine your next pork chops in it and serve it with some sauteed cinnamon apples and garlic mash and you have a feast!
My first post! Aren’t you going to be proud of me, Jenn? Well now, maybe you should just brine the turkey in it one day, brine the pork chops in it the day after, and soak your feet in it after that! (And throw it out!!!) And keep in mind all the extras Aunt Terri and Erin had in mind when they said “iced tea and rest” and “cinnamon apples and garlic mash”. And remember to keep that brine refrigerated until your through with it.
It’s always the little things that make us the happiest. Like Turkey Brine … never made a turkey so I’m not sure why you need it, maybe I’ll try it for Christmas since it’s at my house this year, I’m glad your Happy! MissU
