Being without an internet connection for a few days is beyond frustrating.
Not simply because I can’t keep up with posting on the blog, but because that’s how I do my job – online.
So being unplugged inevitably puts me behind schedule & I scramble like crazy the next few days I’m back up to make up that lost time.
Today is one of those days.
So a short & sweet teaser for you.
“Get a kit…Make a plan…Be informed”
These signs were everywhere when I first arrived at Humphreys.
In fact, they were everywhere enough that I started wondering, “Just what am I supposed to be planning for? And where do I get this ‘kit’ you speak of?”
I had no clue…and it was a little disturbing because at that time the boy up North had been trying out his new nuclear toy….blowing things up like the 8 year-old bully he tends to be.
Well, tonight is the FRG meeting for the battalion & I’m supposed to have my kit ready.
FRG – Family Readiness Group: The Army equivalent of an elementary school PTA meeting. Unorganized, desperate Army housewives from age 17 to 56  sitting around gossip-central. There’s the usual power struggle to be the “leader”; the busy-bodies who want to know everything about everyone one; the young mothers frantically trying to keep their babies from crying during the commander’s speech; and then there’s me. The lone outsider.
The battalion is almost 800 soldiers.
If we were back in the states, that would mean a good 600 wives. But only 10% of soldiers in Korea have their family here…so I’m guessing the roughly 30 that were there at the last meeting will be there this time.
I was planning on using tonight to work…not just on the business, but to tackle all the housework that’s been piling up.
Did I mention the FRG meeting is mandatory?
And did I mention it’s pot-luck?
Oh yeah, and did I mention that until this morning I was under the impression that this was an FRG meeting for D company – not the B Company Eric’s in – so I have nothing to cook?
[whispering to the side]
(Battalions are made of up companies – A, B, C, D…you get the point)
And did I mention that I have to have my kit ready to take to the meeting?
Oh…I did?…Well…
Did I mention I have to do this all over again for the B Company FRG meeting on Thursday night?…another lovely pot-luck extravaganza.
Fudge it.
Fudge, fudge, fudge.
Big heaping piles of fudge muffins!!!
I’m never gonna get caught up.

Well crap, Jenn. I wish I was replying to this in time to help you come up with something to make based on what you have at the house. What did you end up making? And did you remember to put pig ears in your kit?
Ummm …. fudge sounds good ….
Just open up a can of corn add a little butter and you’re good to go!
Miss you lots and lots …
